Bahía Magdalena

(Magdalena Bay) is a 50 km long bay approximately 2.5 hours drive from the the state capital of La Paz and a less than 2 hour drive from the international airport of Loreto. This bay is particularly noted for the seasonal migration of the California gray whales that come here during winter to mate. The bay is also popular for commercial and sports fishing. Nearby mangrove swamps provide sanctuaries for sea birds and great fishing. The bay includes the small fishing port of San Carlos, as well as Puerto López Mateos, which provides a good place to observe the whales.

There are no hotels to speak of, or resorts developments as yet. Most come here for great adventures and tranquility. This region of the Baja has a vast opportunity in both conservation and exclusive eco-real estate development.
